GEO Consultant for Agencies
I help agencies see how language models describe their clients, what drives that description, and which fixes deserve effort.
Book 20 MinutesTwenty minutes to scope a GEO review for your agency.
A GEO consultant for agencies studies what language models say about a client when they compose an answer, works out where that picture comes from, and advises the agency on changes. The agency keeps the client and does the work.
Generative engine optimization is the least settled of the three disciplines, so agencies need someone who will separate what is known from what is experimental. I led AEO strategy at W3whiz, spent 2+ years as a Product Manager at Search Atlas managing 5 engineers on AI-search tooling, and have 15 years in SEO behind that.
Evidence a GEO consultant for agencies examines
A model draws on a wide field of sources, so a client can be accurate on its own site and still be described wrongly elsewhere. The review covers how the model describes the client when asked directly, and when asked comparison or recommendation questions. It then checks the description against reality: services, locations, differentiators, facts.
Next come the outside sources that appear to shape it, and the credible ones that are missing. Last, the client's own content gets read for facts that a model could reuse without distortion.
The deliverable is a description of the gap between the client you know and the client the model describes. Sometimes the gap is small. Sometimes the model has the wrong service area, an old name, or a competitor's strengths attached to your client. Each of those points to a different fix.
Finding out what a model says
Ask a defined set of questions across the main models on a schedule and record the replies. Sampling is the only practical method now, and replies vary with phrasing and over time.
I help design the question set, decide how many runs make a pattern worth acting on, and separate a true inaccuracy from ordinary variation. Keep a dated log. When a description changes, the log shows whether it followed your change, a change elsewhere on the web, or just variation. Models also repeat outdated or mistaken information for reasons unrelated to your client's site, and part of my job is telling your team which errors can be fixed and which can only be monitored. The guide to generative engine optimization covers the background.
Fixes worth recommending
Fixes fall into three groups: make the brand's facts consistent, make content easy to reuse, and fill gaps in outside coverage. The first two can be done on the client's site and profiles. The third often cannot be solved by the agency alone.
Earning coverage in credible third-party sources is a long effort with no guaranteed result, and I do not present it as a quick lever. Clear and consistent entity information is well supported. Other recommendations are hypotheses and I label them so. This review differs from an answer-citation review, which starts from specific buyer questions. For that angle, see the AEO consultant for agencies engagement.
Account managers can then explain to clients which fixes are in the agency's hands and which depend on others.
Consultant, head of GEO or audit
Pick the consultant engagement for a diagnosis and a plan your team carries out. Ongoing ownership of the function is the fractional head of GEO seat, and a formal assessment of one client's footprint is a GEO audit.
An agency unsure whether it should sell GEO at all can start with a short review, a low-commitment way to find out before building a service line. If the evidence does not support selling it to a given client, I will say that. For the operational side, the post on GEO agency SOPs is a useful companion.
The review ends with a decision: offer GEO, wait, or fix a specific weakness first. Each is a legitimate outcome, and I would rather you reach the right one than commit to more work than the evidence supports.

FAQ
What does a GEO consultant for agencies do?
A GEO consultant for agencies diagnoses how language models describe and mention a client's brand in generated responses, then advises on entity consistency, content and outside coverage. The agency keeps the client and carries out the changes. The consultant provides review, direction and honest limits.
How is GEO different from AEO?
AEO concerns being cited or recommended inside a specific answer. GEO concerns what a model knows and synthesizes about a brand from content, entities and third-party corroboration. They overlap, but their levers and failure modes differ, and the review work is planned separately.
Can GEO results be measured reliably?
Not fully. Model replies vary with phrasing, model and time, and no tool gives a complete picture. Repeatable sampling gives a directional view, and a good consultant helps you report it without overstating what it proves. Treat any promise of precise GEO measurement with caution.
Does my agency need a GEO service line?
That depends on whether your clients ask about AI search and how strong your core delivery is. A short consultant review can tell you whether the evidence supports offering the service before you build anything around it, and what a first client engagement would need.
