Fractional Leadership

Fractional SEO, AEO and GEO Leadership for Agencies

Senior search judgment on a part-time basis: someone experienced reads your team's plans, answers the hard questions and flags problems before a client does.

Book 20 Minutes

A short call to see which fractional shape fits your team.

Fractional SEO, AEO and GEO leadership for agencies is senior search expertise bought by the slice. A specialist joins a standing call, reads your team's plans and drafts, answers the questions nobody in the building can, and leaves production to your people. You get the judgment of a department head without the salary line.

I built this model from two sides: nine years running W3whiz, my own SEO agency, then two-plus years as a Product Manager at Search Atlas, where I managed five engineers building AI-search and platform tooling. The pages below split it by discipline and by role.

Fractional SEO, AEO and GEO leadership, defined

The unit is a standing call, weekly or monthly, plus async access in between. Your team posts a question in Slack or email and I answer, usually within a day or two. Anything bigger waits for the call so it does not turn into a thread of forty messages.

The time is scoped on a first call, from what your team has in motion. A quiet month gets a short call. A site migration or a new service launch gets more of my attention. No fixed tier applies.

Where it sits next to white label and a full-time hire

Two other routes solve a similar gap, and they cost and commit differently.

  • White label fulfillment: my in-house team produces the client deliverables under your brand. A fractional engagement produces none of them. I review yours. See white label fulfillment.
  • A full-time hire: a salary, a recruiting cycle and a management load, all committed before you know how much search work you will sell.

Which page fits your team?

Split first by discipline. SEO is rankings and organic traffic, covered on fractional SEO. AEO is whether a client's pages become the source an answer engine quotes, covered on fractional AEO. GEO is what language models say about a brand across the wider web, covered on fractional GEO.

Then split by role. Each discipline has three versions:

What a fractional seat leaves out

Production, client-facing account work and guaranteed outcomes sit outside it. Measurement for AEO and GEO is young, so I promise no citation rate and no mention count. You get review, answers and a recommendation on what to do next.

The model also works as a first step. A few months in, you can see where search volume lands, and that informs the later hire-or-outsource decision.

FAQ

What is fractional SEO for an agency?

Fractional SEO for an agency is part-time senior oversight of the SEO work your own team delivers. A specialist reviews strategy, answers technical questions and catches errors before clients see them. Your team keeps the production and the client relationship.

Is a fractional engagement the same as white label?

Fractional covers review and direction for your team. White label fulfillment hands the production itself to an outside team that works under your brand. Agencies choose between them based on how much delivery they want to keep in-house.

Do you cover AEO and GEO as well as SEO?

Yes, each with its own page, because the questions differ. SEO concerns rankings and organic traffic, AEO concerns being quoted in AI answers, and GEO concerns how language models describe a brand. The engagement shape stays the same across all three, so you can start with one and add another later.

How much time does a fractional engagement take?

The time is scoped to your team's workload and agreed on a call before anything starts. Usually that means a standing weekly or monthly call plus async availability in between. It changes when your workload does, so a heavy month can get more attention and a quiet one less.
