White Label AEO Agency

White Label AEO Agency Partnership

How to judge a white label AEO agency in a field where measurement is still soft, and how an AEO partnership runs under your brand.

Book 20 Minutes

20 minutes, no pitch.

A white label AEO agency works to get your clients named in the answers ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity give, while you keep the client relationship. The category is young. There is little track record to lean on and plenty of confident claims.

This page is for agency owners deciding whether to partner on AEO. It covers the questions to ask, how a partnership starts, how to report on soft data, and the practices a good provider turns down. For the service itself, see white label AEO.

What to ask a white label AEO agency before you sign

Ask how it measures, and how honestly it describes the limits. Those are the two things nobody can fake for long. AEO has no settled equivalent of a rank tracker, so every provider has made methodology choices. You should be able to see them.

Four questions do most of the work. How do you check whether a client is cited? A credible answer names the engines, the kind of questions asked and how often checks repeat. How do you handle variation between runs? A single screenshot is not a measurement. What do you change on a page? Concrete answers sound like direct opening paragraphs, tighter structure and supporting markup, and vague talk of being AI-friendly is a warning. And who does the work? Mine is an in-house team that I manage directly.

Also ask what happens when a client wants a guarantee. The answer tells you how the provider behaves under pressure, which is exactly when your reputation is at stake.

Starting from a baseline

A sound AEO partnership begins by recording where the client stands. It is far easier to defend the work to a client when the starting point was captured before anything changed.

I look at how the client appears across the main engines for the questions that matter to their business. We agree scope and reporting cadence, and I collect access. Page and structure work follows, and the same checks are repeated on a regular cycle.

One client with one clear question is a good first step, such as why a competitor is named in answers and they are not. A long-term contract is not required to try it.

The baseline also protects you. If a competitor is cited and your client is not, you have a dated record of the gap and of what was changed afterwards.

Reporting when the data is soft

A report should show what was checked, what changed, and how much weight the change deserves, in words your client can follow. Tools for tracking AI citations are still developing, and the same question can return different answers on different days.

That does not rule out reporting. A good report shows trends across repeated checks, names the engines and questions, and separates what the provider did from what the engines did. It carries your brand and is ready to send.

Be wary of a partner whose AEO report looks like a ranking report, with certainty it has not earned.

Ask a prospective partner for a sample AEO report and read it for what it admits. A good one states which engines and questions were checked, notes where results varied, and avoids a single headline number.

Practices to refuse

Because results are hard to verify, the pull toward dressing up weak ones is stronger than in classic SEO. I decline these:

  • Promising a citation or recommendation in a named engine.
  • Presenting a one-time answer as proof the work succeeded.
  • Fake reviews, invented statistics or planted content aimed at influencing answers.
  • Selling AEO as a replacement for SEO. A client with broken basics needs those fixed first.

FAQ

What is a white label AEO agency?

A white label AEO agency does answer engine optimization for another agency's clients under that agency's brand. It works to get a client cited or recommended when AI tools answer questions in their category, while the agency owns the relationship, the invoice and the reporting.

How do I vet a white label AEO agency?

Ask how it checks citations, how it handles variation between runs, what it changes on a page and who does the work. A good provider can describe its method and its limits. A weak one leans on screenshots and confident claims.

Can a white label AEO agency guarantee citations in ChatGPT?

Nobody can. Answers vary between runs and between engines, and the engines are outside any provider's control. A trustworthy partner commits to defined work and honest tracking, and says clearly that a guaranteed citation is not on offer from anyone.

Is AEO different from SEO for an agency partnership?

Yes. SEO targets rankings in classic search results, while AEO targets citations inside generated answers, with its own deliverables and measurement. The two share foundations, so a client with weak SEO basics usually needs those fixed before AEO work pays off.
