GEO Agency Pricing: How to Price Generative Engine Work

GEO shapes how language models come to know a brand. Much of that happens on other people's websites, and the payoff arrives slowly, which changes both the contract term and the fee.

GEO agency pricing is mostly a question of term length and honesty about measurement. The work reaches beyond the client's site, results arrive late if at all, and no one can promise that a language model will mention a given brand. So you price the program and the monitoring, and you leave out any promise of mentions. This post covers how to quote generative engine optimization to your own clients. No real prices appear, and any figure in an example is invented.

Why this site does not publish its own fees is covered in why we don't publish pricing.

Why GEO agency pricing sits apart from SEO and AEO

SEO has mature rank and traffic reporting. AEO has a list of prompts you can check on a schedule. GEO sits upstream of both, in how models form a picture of a brand in the first place. The generative engine optimization guide explains the discipline.

For pricing, that means three things. Part of the scope lives on third-party sites you do not control. Changes can take a long time to appear in model behavior, and with some systems you cannot tell when. And attribution is poor, because a mention inside a generated response may never produce a click you can trace.

What goes into the program

Each of these is a scope line you can price and adjust on its own.

  • Entity definition. Describing the brand, products, people and claims consistently across the client's site and profiles, so models have one clear picture.
  • Retrieval-ready content. Pages written so facts can be extracted and attributed, on the topics where the client wants to be known.
  • Corroboration. Getting the brand described accurately on independent sources that models tend to lean on.
  • Monitoring and correction. Periodic checks of how models describe the brand, and fixes where an error can be traced to a source.

Corroboration is the line you cannot control

Of the four, corroboration depends most on other people. Scope it as effort: outreach made, profiles corrected, sources approached. Do not scope it as placements secured. If a client reads the proposal as a promise of coverage, you will be defending outcomes you never controlled.

Contract term and the shape of the work

A one-month commitment makes both sides judge the work before anything could plausibly change. A longer minimum term with a defined review point is more honest. Tell the client what the first review will show: work completed and a monitoring baseline. A mention count will not be on it.

PhaseTypical emphasisPricing note
OpeningEntity audit, baseline of how models describe the brand, content planHeavy on analysis, can be quoted as a defined project
BuildContent, entity cleanup, first corroboration outreachHeaviest delivery load, so model margin across the whole term
SustainMonitoring, corrections, targeted corroborationLighter load, and monitoring can be partly automated

A flat monthly fee against that profile front-loads your effort. Check margin across the full term, not month by month, or the early months will look worse than the program is.

Why performance pricing does not fit yet

A performance-linked fee needs a measure both sides trust. No stable, agreed measure of a model mentioning a brand exists today. Tools sample moving systems in different ways, responses vary between runs, and models change without notice. Fixed fees for defined work, with monitoring reported as an indicator, carry far less dispute risk than fees tied to mention counts.

Hybrid terms are rarely advisable for the same reason. A variable layer is only as good as its metric.

The hours trap, again

Pressure to bill research and monitoring by the hour punishes you as your process improves. Monitoring especially can be partly automated, so an hours-based fee shrinks while the value of the insight holds steady. The argument in every efficiency gain your team makes is costing you money applies in full. Price the program and the expertise. Keep hours as an internal cost check.

How white label cost structure helps

White label GEO lets you sell the service with variable delivery cost instead of hiring for a skill that is still taking shape. It leaves your price untouched. That still comes from the client's situation and scope, tested against the partner's cost and your margin.

If you want delivery under your own brand, see white label GEO and the wider white label hub. The same questions for other engines are in SEO agency pricing and AEO agency pricing.

Terms to walk away from

A guaranteed mention. A fixed position in model outputs. A refund tied to model behavior. Each puts something you cannot control on your balance sheet. Clients who accept the honest framing and a longer term tend to be better partners regardless.

FAQ

How should an agency price GEO services?

Price GEO as a program of work: entity definition, retrieval-ready content, third-party corroboration effort and monitoring. A short project for the baseline and a longer retainer for the main engagement is a sensible structure. Do not price on a promised number of model mentions.

Can an agency guarantee that a language model will mention a client?

No. Models change, responses vary between runs and agencies do not control them. Guarantee the work delivered, the monitoring schedule and the honesty of reporting. Describe mentions as something you influence over time, not something you can purchase or promise.

Why does GEO need a longer contract term than SEO?

GEO effects are slow and uncertain, and much of the work happens on third-party sources. A one-month term makes both sides judge the work before any change could appear. A longer minimum term with a defined review point is more honest and gives the work time to compound.

Is performance-based pricing realistic for GEO?

Not today. There is no stable, agreed measure of a model mentioning a brand, and tools sample moving systems differently. Fixed fees for defined work, with monitoring reported as an indicator, are safer than variable fees tied to mention counts.
